John Lowe Golf Classic. Tenerife.

The John Lowe Golf Classic is now in it's 6th year, and is becoming a significant fixture in Tenerife Golf. The Amarilla Golf and Country Club has become home to the event, successive captains have made it part of their charity, and members have given wonderful support, not only entering teams, but also sponsoring individual tee's. The day begins with team photographs, and light refreshment, before the teams head off to their respective Tee's, at 10am the claxon sounds, and play begins. The format is Stableford, the best 2 scores to count at each hole, drinks are provided on some tee's, and the refreshment cart is never far away. The golf is fiercly competitive, but also very friendly, at 3pm all teams are back at the club house, and the banter begins, "How did you do" "I hit the pin on the 5th" "If we had not missed so many putt's" and of course the team who have 90 points, and are quitely confident they are the winners.Everyone is kept entertained by a Spanish group of musicians, and the barbecue gets under way. A charity auction is held, with some great lots to bid for, wekends in 5 star hotels, a trip to La Gomera on Fred Olsens fast cat, and many others.

Taylor retains his Matchplay title.

2009-players-champs-taylor.jpg

Phil Taylor retained his World Matchplay Title at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool last night, when he defeated Raymond Van Barnaveld by 18 legs to 12. The final was everything expected of it, Barney looked at ease with his throw, and cool under presure, Taylor as ever, superb in all departments. Barney matched Taylor throw for throw until the 7th leg, Barney hit a maximum, but missed darts at double 18 and double 9, Taylor pounced on tops to break throw, that was the gap he was looking for and he never gave it back. He broke again in the 19th leg to go 11-8 in front, the gap remained a cushion of 3 legs till 15-12, then Taylor seized on a mistake by Barney when he burst his score on 65, Taylor landed double 16 and there was no way back for Barney. Taylor averaged 105.16, Barney 100.11, the telling factor was in the maximums, Taylor 9 Barney 2. It was a great final to watch, and good to see Barney almost back to his best, the fans where superb throughout. Next: The world Grand Prix from Ireland.

Thank's to Stan James for supporting yet another great event from Blackpool.

Unicorn Ladies World Championship

The final of the Unicorn ladies World championship took place after the semi-finals of the mens championship at the Winter Gardens Blackpool last night. Stacy Bomberg and Tricia Wright had battled through the field of qualifyers over the last few months to reach the final, they took to the stage in front of 3000 spectators to play for the £10,000 first prize, the biggest in Ladies darts. The match was the first to 6 legs, and Tricia did not waste any time reaching 5 legs, with Bomberg back on 3, but the fighting spirit that has seen Stacy win multi titles accross the world became evident as she pulled back to 5-5. In the deciding leg it was Tricia who arrived at the double first, but 4 missed darts at the target gave Stacy the chance she greatfully accepted. Both players will now be handed PDC pro-tour cards for the 2011 season.

Alex Higgins. a Snooker Legend.

alex higgins.jpg

Alex Higgins a true Legend of Snooker sadly passed away Saturday when he lost his battle against throat cancer. Alex was the yougest world champion in 1972 when he defeated John Spencer to lift the world title, he went on to win it again in 1982. I appeared many times with Alex, in exhibitions and trade shows, he was always exciting, flambouyant, and friendly, he even fancied himself on the dart board, always willing to get up and have a game against the best. Alex is true to the words "It's a long and winding road" now the journey is over. Goodbye friend.

John Lowe.
