Darts biggest Television audience

Sir Jimmy Saville

I have just been informed, the biggest TV viewing audience for a darts match was: John Lowe v Emma Stonner, on the Christmas Special, Jim L Fix It, in 1984, Emma was 91 years old and still played in her local league, ITV found out her idol was myself.

I remember it well, Sid Waddell was the darts MC for the match, the TV props guys had provided Emma with a trick pint of her favourite tipple, Guiness, when she took a sip, the glass half emptied, there was a sleeve within the pint. so only half an inch round the side was full, making it look like a full pint, half way through the game of 501, Emma picked up the glass and took a sip, when she came back from the board, she looked at her glass and noticed it appeared to be almost empty, she turned to Sid and said "I know what's happening, you are drinking my Guiness when I am throwing" the whole theatre was in uproar.

There are a few special things that happen in your life time, meeting Emma Stonner was one of those.

The match was watched by over 20 million viewers.
